Golden Festival Turns 30

Enjoy this short history of the evolution of The Zlatne Uste Golden Festival written for the East European Folklife Center’s Kef Times.

"In an effort to create a venue to play, Zlatne Uste decided to organize a party...We called it the Golden Festival. The architects of the party, Drew and Laine Harris...had a clear and simple idea of how to make a successful party: to provide good music, an attractive space, and ample food and drink to fuel good feelings and dance energy. "

Let’s raise a glass to the legendary Brooklyn institution, which The Zlatne Uste Golden Festival called home for a decade from The New Yorker.

"The Zlatne Uste Golden Festival, a boisterous Balkan brass hoedown, grew year after year, ultimately drawing thousands for long, sweaty, chandelier-rattling nights of traditional Old World circle dances and crowd-surfing. The last and biggest Golden Festival at the Grand Prospect Hall took place in January, 2020."
